This article documents a LEGO Star Wars promotional item that has never appeared in any collector database, forum, or reference guide. It exists in a single photograph. Its production run is unknown. Its current whereabouts are unknown. It may not even have a BrickLink listing. But it is real — and this collection is looking for one.
The Evidence
A photograph surfaced on Reddit showing a glass or acrylic display case with metal framing, containing two large-scale brick-built LEGO Star Wars figures side by side. On the left, on a small rectangular plastic pedestal, is the Commander Cody maxi-figure documented separately on this site. On the right, on a slightly taller stand, is a brick-built Darth Vader of comparable scale.
Above both figures is a circular seal reading “LEGO STAR WARS 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY” with “1999–2009” at the bottom. The background suggests the display was located in a mall or large public space, with crowds visible. This was not a standard in-store display — it was a commemorative exhibition tied to the 10th anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars theme, which launched in 1999.
The Reddit post describes the Cody figure in this display as “an example of one of the builds outside the UK being used as a store model” — suggesting the display figures were drawn from the same production run as the UK raffle figures, or from a related production run created specifically for the anniversary tour.
The Vader
The Darth Vader figure in the display case appears to be a brick-built maxi-figure of similar scale to the Commander Cody — large enough to serve as a centerpiece display piece, clearly purpose-built rather than assembled from a standard retail set. Beyond what is visible in the single photograph, nothing is known about it.
It does not appear in the BrickLink catalog. It has not been documented in any collector forum, price guide, or reference database. No production quantity has been stated anywhere. No certificate of authenticity has been documented. No entry form, raffle, or distribution mechanism has been recorded. For all practical purposes, this item does not exist in the collector record — despite clearly existing in at least one photograph.
Whether the Vader was produced at the same Czech Republic LEGO Production facility as the Commander Cody figures, at the same time, and in similar quantities is completely unknown. It may have been part of the same 2008 production run, or it may have been produced separately for the 2009 anniversary events. It may have been numbered and certified like the Cody figures, or it may have been a pure display piece with no collector documentation at all.
The Anniversary Context
LEGO Star Wars launched in 1999 — the same year as the 1999 Toy Fair Promotional Diorama, the first LEGO Star Wars item ever distributed outside the LEGO corporation.
