3,000 Made. A New Packaging Format That Nobody Expected. A Comics Code Authority Parody Stamp. And Two Characters Having A Conversation About Parsecs.
The 2018 SDCC exclusive that changed the format entirely. After five years of rectangular boxes, 75512 arrived in tall, narrow packaging with a retro comic book graphic design — speech bubbles, halftone dots, bold outlined lettering, and a holographic numbered sticker in the corner. The set itself has no exclusive elements. The box is the point.
San Diego Comic-Con 2018 ran July 19–22. LEGO brought three exclusive sets — one Star Wars, one DC, one Marvel — all in the same retro comic book format. The Star Wars entry was 75512, Millennium Falcon Cockpit, a tie-in to Solo: A Star Wars Story which had released in May 2018. 3,000 were produced — double the run of the DC and Marvel exclusives from the same event, each limited to 1,500. Each box is individually numbered via a holographic sticker.
This collection holds one sealed example: #0777 of 3000.
The Comic Book Format
The 2018 SDCC packaging format is unlike anything LEGO had used for event exclusives before or since. The box is tall and narrow with a glossy finish and a retro comic book graphic design throughout — halftone dot patterns, bold outlined lettering, speech bubbles on the artwork, and a colour palette that shifts between deep blue hyperspace tones on the front and teal on the back. The proportions and format are deliberately reminiscent of home video release packaging from the 1980s, but the dominant aesthetic is Silver Age comic book: the kind of cover design you’d find on a Marvel or DC title from the 1960s. The result is a box that feels like a collector’s item before you’ve even looked at what’s inside.
Two design details on the front face are worth noting specifically. The first is the holographic triangular unit numbering sticker in the upper left corner — a distinctive format not used on any previous LEGO Star Wars exclusive, with a prismatic finish that changes colour depending on viewing angle. The second is the “Approved by the LEGO Builders’ Authority” stamp in the upper right alongside the SDCC 2018 Exclusive badge — a direct parody of the Comics Code Authority seal that appeared on American comic books from 1954 onward, confirming that the comic book aesthetic is deliberate and knowing rather than incidental.
The Box
The front face carries the main illustration in a comic book art style — Han Solo and Chewbacca seated in the Millennium Falcon cockpit, rendered as LEGO minifigures in a halftone dot-shaded panel. Two speech bubbles carry dialogue:

The back face uses the teal colour scheme and carries the full product presentation alongside a comic-style rendered photograph of the actual built model with Han and Chewie minifigures, a speech bubble reading “Was that really less than 12 parsecs?”, a Han Solo & Chewbacca from the hit movie callout badge, the Solo logo, a Hey Kids! creativity and teamwork panel, a Galactic Trivia panel with two questions (answers inside), an actual size illustration of a small element, the San Diego Comic-Con 2018 banner, and the Disney and LEGO.com logos.
The Solo Context
Solo: A Star Wars Story was released May 25, 2018 — less than two months before SDCC 2018. The film depicted Han Solo’s early life, including his first meeting with Chewbacca and his acquisition of the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian. 75512 depicts the Falcon’s cockpit as seen in that film — a cleaner, newer configuration than the battered cockpit of the Original Trilogy — with the Han Solo and Chewbacca minifigures matching those in the retail set 75212 Kessel Run Millennium Falcon released the same year.
The speech bubbles on the packaging lean into the Solo connection: “Was that really less than 12 parsecs?” references one of the most discussed lines in Star Wars history — Han’s claim in A New Hope that the Falcon made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, which Solo retroactively explained as a feat of navigation through a shortened but more dangerous route.
The Build
The set contains 203 pieces to build the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. The build features four seats — two forward pilot seats and two rear seats — with printed console panels, control yokes, and instrument displays. The iconic circular viewport frames the front of the cockpit. The build is designed to display with the Han Solo and Chewbacca minifigures seated in the forward positions. No elements in the set are exclusive to it — all parts are available from other sets, including the minifigures which are identical to those in 75212.
Current Value
BrickEconomy lists the current value at approximately $450 sealed. Secondary market examples appear regularly, with condition of the holographic sticker and the box corners being the primary grading factors. The no-exclusive-elements strategy — consistent with the 2016 and 2017 exclusive sets — keeps the value lower than sets with unique printed parts.

What We Don’t Know
- The Galactic Trivia answers — the back panel poses two trivia questions with answers described as being inside the box. The questions are: (1) In what year were the first LEGO® Star Wars™ sets released? and (2) How many different versions of the Han Solo minifigure were released in 2000? The answers are inside and cannot be confirmed from this sealed example.
- The Comics Code Authority parody — the “Approved by the LEGO Builders’ Authority” stamp is an explicit parody of the Comics Code Authority seal. Whether this was a deliberate creative decision by the packaging designers or a LEGO corporate decision has not been publicly documented.
- Distribution mechanics — the queue or lottery system used for 75512 at SDCC 2018 has not been fully documented in collector sources.
