The NYCC entry in the 2012 tin trilogy — same format, same price, same run size as COMCON019, but at a different convention three months later. The Luke Skywalker minifigure inside is unique to this set and has never appeared in any retail release. That detail alone accounts for most of the gap between this tin’s current value and the other two.
New York Comic Con 2012 ran October 11–14, with a preview night on October 10. LEGO brought one Star Wars exclusive: COMCON024, Luke Skywalker’s Mini Landspeeder. 1,000 were produced and individually numbered. Distribution followed the same format established at SDCC three months earlier — 200 per day on a first-come, first-served basis, with an additional 200 on preview night. Purchase limit was two per transaction. Price was $40.

The 2012 Tin Format
COMCON024 is the third of three LEGO Star Wars exclusives from 2012 — alongside CELEB2012 and COMCON019 — all sharing the same cylindrical tin format: approximately 4⅛” in diameter and 4⅞” tall (10.3 × 10.3 × 12.5 cm), press-fit removable lid, two tape seals, full-bleed printed paper label, circular medallion lid label. All label text and manufacturing information is printed directly on the label — there are no separate stickers on any of the three 2012 tins.
COMCON024’s artwork sets it apart from the other two. Where CELEB2012 used warm amber Bespin tones and COMCON019 used a cool desert landscape with dramatic action posing, COMCON024 uses a softer, more pastoral Tatooine scene — the Lars homestead visible in the middle distance, R2-D2 in the right foreground, and the Landspeeder model presented as if in motion across the flats. The colour palette is lighter and more open than either of its 2012 companions.
The Tin
The lid top carries a circular medallion label on a warm sand/gold background with a decorative dotted border ring and text reading LEGO® STAR WARS™ around the top arc and NYCC 2012 EXCLUSIVE around the bottom arc. The centre carries a close-up render of the Luke Skywalker minifigure face — the A New Hope version, blonde hair, white tunic — with a partial view of his comlink or tool in the lower right.

The Build
The set contains 110 pieces to build a mini X-34 Landspeeder — Luke Skywalker’s vehicle from A New Hope. The model is built primarily in tan and dark red with grey engine elements. The open cockpit can seat the included Luke Skywalker minifigure. Three repulsorlift engines are visible at the rear. Unlike the Sith Infiltrator in COMCON019, the Landspeeder has a flat underside and sits level for display without any base or stand issues.
The Minifigure
The Luke Skywalker minifigure (sw0432) is exclusive to COMCON024. It has not appeared in any retail set before or since. The figure depicts Luke in his A New Hope white tunic and tan trousers. The minifigure is packaged in a separate sealed polybag inside the tin alongside the parts, following the same format as COMCON019.
The exclusivity of the minifigure is the primary driver of COMCON024’s significantly higher secondary market value relative to CELEB2012 and COMCON019. Both of those sets include minifigures available elsewhere — the Darth Maul from COMCON019 appeared in a contemporaneous polybag, and the Boba Fett from CELEB2012 shared most parts with a retail set. The Luke in COMCON024 has no equivalent.
NYCC vs SDCC
COMCON024 is the first New York Comic Con exclusive documented in this collection’s LEGO Star Wars run. While SDCC had been the primary venue for LEGO Star Wars exclusives since 2008, the 2012 tin format was deliberately extended across three events — SDCC, Star Wars Celebration VI, and NYCC — each receiving one tin in the same physical format, at the same $40 price, limited to the same 1,000 units. The official announcement described COMCON024 as “the third in a series,” confirming the three-event run was planned as a unified release rather than an ad hoc addition. The NYCC branding on the label is the only external indicator distinguishing COMCON024 from its SDCC counterpart; the tin format, size, and construction are identical.
Current Value
Brick Ranker places the current value at approximately $1,120 sealed — roughly four times the value of COMCON019 and three times CELEB2012. The gap is attributable almost entirely to the exclusive Luke Skywalker minifigure. Label condition remains the primary grading factor, with the same paper wrap vulnerability and tape seal age issues shared across all three 2012 tins.

What We Don’t Know
- The Luke Skywalker minifigure details — the figure is documented as exclusive to this set but the specific print details — torso printing, leg printing, face variant — have not been confirmed from this collection’s sealed examples. A comparison against the closest retail Luke variants would be needed to fully document what makes sw0432 distinct.
- Whether NYCC received the same preview night allocation — Brick Ranker documents a preview night allocation of 200 for NYCC 2012, matching the SDCC format. Whether NYCC’s preview night structure was identical to SDCC’s has not been independently confirmed.
- The NYCC context — by 2012 NYCC had grown to approximately 116,000 attendees, making it the second largest comic convention in North America behind SDCC. The official COMCON024 announcement described it as “the third in a series” — indicating LEGO planned the three-tin run as a deliberate set from the outset rather than adding NYCC as an afterthought. Despite NYCC growing to eventually surpass SDCC in raw ticket sales by 2014, LEGO did not return with a Star Wars exclusive at NYCC after 2012. No explanation for that decision has been publicly documented.
